Through this week, we are leaning Individualism and collectivism; some countries are more collectivism, for example, Mexico. I desire to discuss this topic with a different idea or way; in my life, I have been living in individualism and collectivism.just like a baby born, through the life learned to be self-reliance, the baby crawls, walks, and then runs, growing step by step. Depending completing from his/her parents, but at the same, the things that learned is converting an individual person. All my child and my young life I depend on my parents and family, but when I was 18 years, for the society I´m an adult, and the responsibilities came as an adult. The society demands me a being more responsible in a home, in school and in job; and many things I should do it alone, being an individualism person but at the same a collectivism person when I coexist with my family.
This picture show in yellow are countries by Individualism and brown are countries by Collectivism (3)
The common tradition still in some families in Mexico is
"...traditional collectivistic cultures, there is likely to be a social hierarchy based on gender, birth order, and/or age. Family elders may be highly respected, and they often have roles of authority with responsibility to make sure family members do what is best for the family rather than what is best for themselves as individuals..." (1)
Respect elders are the first rule to have a life of blessing; unfortunately, this is changing and I said unfortunately because if the young people hear their suggestion many things would not happen. Learn through their experience life and avoid problems.
Now talking about in the classroom, how can a teacher improve each student in individualism and collectivism culture? Zhao "believes that the two major changes that should shape education policy are globalization and technology. students need to understand the world that they will live in and master technology"(2) Teacher can enjoy the best technology or not have it , the real goal is to improve each student, I think, in spite of the material as a teacher will can have and give, share with the student the best class, the best material and the best technology to preparing in the world. Also, I think, when the student achieves knowledge himself/herself, is admired because did it alone, but also is important to invite and he/she shares with the partners enriching not only the class, also blessing the life.
I am sure, in Individualism and Collectivism, we can gain good and learn good things. (4)
